AUGUST HAPPENINGS
Its durian season again and from what I hear it’s going to be a long, fruitful season. So let’s start tucking into this “King of the Fruit”.
There are some health benefits to the durian. It is rich in energy, minerals and vitamins. There is some simple fats and sugars but free from cholesterol.
It’s also a good source of antioxidant and rich in vitamin C and also contains a good amount of some minerals. Eaten in moderation it has its health benefits.
We’re organizing a durian and local fruit fest where else but in a durian orchard – not far from Kuala Lumpur, actually just outside Pedas in Negri Sembilan. We’ll show you the way and you can eat all you want, plus buy some back at a very special price. Your hostess Norlia will be on hand to show you around her 12 acre property which has more than 180 durian trees of different species. This durian and fruit fest is schedule just before the fasting season starts so you can stock up on your favourite fruit. And then, we’ll organize another feast in Sept. after Hari Raya.
We visited this orchard recently and had feast of durians as well as dokong. While eating the fruit we could hear durians crashing to the ground – a truly awesome experience but you must make a booking. It’s just perfect for staff get-togethers. This orchard is privately owned and prior booking is required.
Cost per person is RM30 – all you can eat. TRANSPORT NOT PROVIDED.
Call: 012 6679740 to book. We will meet at the Pedas toll on Sat. 7th Aug at 11 a.m. and we will drive in convoy to the orchard. Bring your family with you for a fun afternoon. Kiddies will enjoy exploring the orchard.
It’s summer in Europe and one of the best times to visit. That’s where I’m headed from Aug – Sept - on a food tour of Europe. Our itinerary will include touring the wine regions in Spain and Portugal, a cooking class in Tuscany (Italy), as well as tasting the best cheese and wine the region has to offer. We will end our tour in Norway.

“ The most fundamentally selfless and communitarian thing we do is to share food. It is the very basis of society.” And, what better way to make friends than to share food.
Food transcends barriers and through this we make social connections. And, I’ve made heaps of friends through food. It is food that inspired me to set up my business – food travel.
